Read. Acts 8:26-40
Reflect. This is the scripture passage from worship on Sunday. Take time to read or reread this passage. If you were not able to join in worship, you can watch the whole service or skip the the sermon at decaturumc.com/sermons.
  • As you read or reread this passage, what stands out? What comes to mind as you read this passage that you did not think of when you encountered it in worship?
  • This passage continues the progress of the church growing from just a movement of Jewish Christians in Jerusalem to a universal community showing God’s love to all.
  • In v.26 we read that Philip is on a “desert” road—desert is another translation for the term “wilderness.” This is more than just a physical description of the road. In scripture and faith, the wilderness has been the location of God leading the people as the wander. When Moses led the Israelites to freedom in Exodus they were led by God through the wilderness, now the church is being led through the wilderness. Do you ever feel as if you are in the wilderness? What have your times in the wilderness taught you?
Pray. Guiding Lord, you led your early followers on a path through hardship. They faced great trials, and you sustained them and your spirit led them. Help me to walk in your same ways. Amen.
