Read. Acts 2:37-39
37 When the crowd heard this, they were deeply troubled. They said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”
38 Peter replied, “Change your hearts and lives. Each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 This promise is for you, your children, and for all who are far away—as many as the Lord our God invites.”

Reflect. Those that heard the sermon of Peter became deeply troubled. Why do you think they became deeply troubled? Can your resonate with being deeply troubled? Then the crowd asks Peter and the other Jesus followers, "What should we do?" ... What should we do? This seems to be a question that a lot of people are asking right now. How have you asked this question over the last few days and weeks?
  • Peter's response is that the answer to this question is found in Jesus, in the forgiveness of sins and in baptism.  Do you think that Jesus gives you guidance in what to do? How does Jesus give you an answer to this question?
  • Peter says that through baptism you receive the gift fo the Holy Spirit. In Christian faith, the Holy Spirit is known as "the Lord, the giver of life." How do you think this story paints the Holy Spirit as the giver of life? How do you see the Holy Spirit giving you life?
Pray. Lord and giver of life, I give you thanks for the life that you give and the life that you share. Please help me to participate in this life and to share your life creating spirit. Amen.
